A Spring Message from the Editorial Team
When spring approaches, many people pause to review everyday life, tidy up after winter, and get things a bit more organized. For us at Samnytt as well, this time of year is a natural point to reflect on how far we’ve come, but also what still needs to be developed. At the same time, the reality of the past year has forced us to adapt to ensure the survival and growth of the newspaper.
Every day, we work to keep the newspaper alive and strong, and to continue sharing stories that rarely make it into mainstream media. It is thanks to you, our readers who support us, that we are still here today. Therefore, we want to extend a big thank you to everyone who supports us, or has done so in the past. We don’t like to nag or plead for support, but our only resource is you readers—and to get through the year, we need your help.
We want to start by expressing our appreciation for all the support we’ve received over the years and during previous occasions—most recently in December last year—when we urged you to consider becoming a subscriber or supporting us with a donation. It is thanks to this support that the newspaper has continued to exist this spring.
At the same time, it’s important to remember that subscriptions taken out in previous years may have expired—either depending on the format chosen or on our earlier subscription system which didn’t allow renewals. Supporting us with a donation or renewing your subscription is absolutely crucial for keeping Samnytt alive into the future.
Over the years we’ve built up a large and loyal audience. Hundreds of thousands read our articles every week. At the same time, only a small fraction actually contribute financially to keep the newspaper alive, which means we manage to stay afloat or dip below the surface, depending on the month. This keeps us extremely limited and makes it difficult for us to grow the operation.
It’s important to be clear to all of you who have always been with us and appreciate the newspaper. Without stable subscription income from those of you who expect us to be here, who believe we play an important role in the media landscape, we can’t continue to develop the newspaper and invest in more investigative journalists. One-time donations help us right now, but what truly makes a difference for the future are recurring subscriptions.
Another challenge, as we mentioned above, is that many subscriptions simply expire without being renewed. Please keep an eye on your subscriptions and, if your period has ended, consider becoming a subscriber again so we have your strong support behind us and you can trust we’ll continue to be here—every day.
Behind Samnytt is a small editorial team with just a few journalists always ready with news and investigations, as well as one IT resource. That’s why every krona goes directly to journalism.
Lately, however, we’ve been forced to reduce work hours due to uncertain revenue streams. This affects how much journalism we can produce. We want to make sure we cover significantly more hours of the day but are also always able to deliver in-depth articles and video reports to you.
The uncertain finances impact how much journalism we can produce. Yet, despite the turbulence, we keep moving forward and have now published nearly 34,000 articles despite setbacks such as multiple serious death threats against the editorial team, legal proceedings, banking issues, and strangled ad markets due to our uncensored and direct journalism. This means we are, in practice, entirely dependent on our readers and therefore need to communicate with you about support when it is crucial.
Our goal is for Samnytt to continue being an important media player where the Swedish people know they can get reliable and uncensored news reporting, without left-liberal filtering, can read articles where we confront and strive to make Sweden better, and also share the best crime journalism so you get the information you’re looking for.
Samnytt is an independent news outlet aiming to be a counterweight to the left-liberal mainstream media and the state media giants. We want to show a reality we feel has been hidden from the Swedish people for many years and has put the country in the situation we are in today.
We will continue this fight every day despite the countless serious death threats received by editorial staff, which impact their personal lives, legal processes, banking problems, and the resistance we face from people and organizations in accepting us as one of Sweden’s newspapers—we thrive in headwinds and have proven to you over the years that we keep fighting every day.
We hope you will continue on the journey with us. Now we are setting our sights on the election year and will keep delivering investigations one after the other. Stand with us and support us today!
