An audit of the Swedish parliament’s travel expenses shows that the Social Democrats’ members account for the largest share of party taxi costs in 2025.
The total expenditure on taxi rides by the parties in parliament amounts to just over 3.3 million SEK for the year. According to an analysis by the newspaper Bulletin, the Social Democrats stand out with a bill of 1,320,591 SEK for 2,526 trips.
That is more than what the Moderate Party, Christian Democrats, Liberals, Left Party, Centre Party, and Green Party combined have spent on taxis. Their total costs amount to 1,258,193 SEK.

Even though the Sweden Democrats are, according to the review, the party closest to the Social Democrats in terms of spending, they are still clearly lower overall with 773,015 SEK spent on a total of 1,708 trips in 2025.
Among the parties, the Green Party stands out as the one making the least use of taxis. Last year, the party made 56 taxi journeys.
The parliament has established rules regarding how members may use taxis at public expense. When choosing a means of transport, considerations must be given to cost, travel time, and environmental impact. Security aspects may also be considered. If a more expensive alternative is chosen, it must be justified.
At the same time, members also have free access to train travel through annual commuter passes with SJ, and are also eligible to use public transportation as part of their benefits.
