Sweden Democrat Member of Parliament Richard Jomshof, who has found success with the Islam-critical book Kafir, has come under the scrutiny of the Net Hate Watchdog (Näthatsgranskaren) for his criticism of Islam on social media. The senior SD politician has been reported to the police for a total of 13 posts that the organization claims constitute the opinion crime of incitement against ethnic groups. According to the organization, this is because he allegedly “dehumanized a group of people based on their religion.”

This is not the first time that Net Hate Watchdog has reported Richard Jomshof for opinion crime. Samnytt has previously reported on how Jomshof shared satirical images critical of Islam on social media, for which he was also reported to the police.

However, that report was dropped by the prosecutor, who judged that the publication fell within the bounds of freedom of expression. The Prosecutor’s Office justified the decision as follows:

In a criminal law assessment, significant space must be given for the freedom to express oneself in speech and writing even if what is said may be perceived as offensive by a larger group. The interest in protecting the individual’s right to express themselves is very far-reaching. The crime of incitement against an ethnic group constitutes a restriction on freedom of expression. Criminal liability can only be considered if it is absolutely clear that a statement exceeds the boundaries of a factual and reliable discussion. Case law from the European Court of Human Rights shows that the possibility to limit freedom of expression is especially limited in political contexts or debates of public interest. The current act of sharing cannot be considered a crime.

On Thursday, Swedish Radio reported that the SD top again has been reported to the police by Net Hate Watchdog. This time for as many as 13 posts that he has published on the platform X.

The public broadcaster notes that an anonymous representative of the organization claims Jomshof, with his social media posts, is “dehumanizing a group of people because of their religion.”

According to SR, Net Hate Watchdog has among other things reported a post where Jomshof insulted Islam’s foremost and most central religious figure, the Prophet Muhammad, by calling him the “pedophile prophet”. Such an accusation of crime can be compared to things seen in countries with Sharia laws.

The background for the post is that Jomshof responded to a video post where an Arabic-speaking man reportedly expressed strong Jew-hatred. The video was first highlighted by Sofie Löwenmark at the Doku Foundation, which investigates the Islamist environment in Sweden. Her post has received about 350,000 views.

One of the thirteen police-reported posts published by Jomshof reportedly relates to this very video clip, where, according to Löwenmark’s translation, Jews are compared to pigs and dogs and described as “the filthiest offspring on earth”.

The SD top reportedly went on to state that he will work to “not only minimize the harmful consequences of the mass immigration policy that other parties have forced upon us, but also do everything I can to achieve large-scale repatriation of all the people who do not belong here.”

Furthermore, he addressed the individual specifically with a call for repatriation, while also describing the Muslims’ prophet Muhammad as a “pedophile prophet.”

“This is Sweden, the land of the Swedish people, you lowbrow disgusting little scumbag. You have nothing to do here. It is time for you to take your antisemitism, your pedophile prophet, your goat, and walk home to your shithole country.”

Criticism: Only scrutinizes the right

Sofie Löwenmark, in a follow-up post in the social media thread about Jew-hatred, also directed criticism at the Net Hate Watchdog.

She argues that the organization does not scrutinize this type of hate when expressed by immigrants in other languages, instead primarily focusing on things that are attributed to the right side of the political spectrum.

According to Swedish Radio, the anonymous representative for Net Hate Watchdog states that the organization’s mission is to report incidents considered to constitute incitement against ethnic groups to the police.

Jomshof to Samnytt: Trying to Silence

Samnytt has contacted Jomshof to hear his view on the police reports from Net Hate Watchdog. According to the SD top, it is an attempt to silence critics of Islam.

“It is obvious that ‘Net Hate Watchdog’ aims to try to silence their opponents through mass reports. But we should not allow ourselves to be silenced,” writes Jomshof and continues:

“It must of course be possible to critically describe the downsides of mass immigration, not least the ongoing Islamization.”
