Shortly after advance voting began, it was announced that problems had occurred and that some votes could potentially be rejected. The Swedish Election Authority has now released a list of locations and times where advance votes may have been affected.

The issue meant that in some cases, an advance vote was registered with the same voter list number as the previous vote. The consequence was that the first voter could be registered twice, while the second voter’s vote was not registered at all.

Initially, there were fears that as many as 4,000 advance votes could be affected. This figure was later reduced to 500. Voters who know they voted at one of the locations at the times listed now have the opportunity to ensure their vote counts by voting again on election day – Sunday.

However, there is an important difference between voting again on election day and advance voting multiple times. The Election Authority urges voters who have already voted in advance not to vote in advance again. If a voter casts multiple advance votes, all their advance votes will be invalidated.
