Malmölistan has been reported to the police after party representatives filmed inside polling stations and accused election officers of voter fraud. Party leader Nils Littorin defends the actions, claiming the party has the right to film at the locations.

The election office of the City of Malmö filed the police report after representatives from Malmölistan entered polling stations and filmed when the party’s ballot papers were not available. The videos were then published on social media.

The material features Malmölistan chairman Nils Littorin confronting election officers and claiming it is a matter of voter fraud. The incidents have spread widely on social media.

Malmö’s election office contacted the police as early as August 27. No report was registered at the time because police considered that any potential defamation offense would need to be reported by the individual election officers. Police have since determined that was a mistaken assessment and have now registered a police report.

The background is that Malmölistan’s ballot papers were allegedly missing from polling stations on multiple occasions. Malmö’s head of elections, Daniel Olsson, has stated that there is no evidence the ballots were deliberately removed. In some cases, the ballots had not yet been delivered and in other cases, there had not been time to set them out before voters arrived.

Malmölistan’s party leader Nils Littorin disagrees with the criticism of the party’s actions. He believes it is permitted to film in polling stations and maintains the party did nothing wrong.

The police report comes as the debate regarding ballot papers and alleged irregularities has become increasingly intense during this year’s election campaign. The Election Authority emphasizes that Swedish elections should be conducted in a safe and secure manner, and that errors and shortcomings related to voting should be reported.
